White deputy mistakenly tries to arrest black man on warrant

An African-American man is demanding a white Texas constable deputy be fired after he says he endured a terrifying encounter in which he was racially profiled and mistaken for a fugitive wanted in Louisiana.

The Harris County Constable for Precinct 4, where the deputy works, stood behind the deputy's actions on Thursday and blamed Evans for escalating the situation by not complying with a request to hand over his identification. "He grabbed me and told me, 'No, I already know your name ... and you've got a warrant out of Louisiana," Evans said.

Mark Herman, the Harris County Constable for Precinct 4, released a statement saying Evans did not cooperate with the deputy and made matters worse by not handing over his identification when asked. Herman did not identify the deputy. Evans' lawyer, U.A. Lewis of Houston, said she and Evans are deciding what to do next now that Herman has apparently decided not to discipline the deputy.

Based off the comments I’ve read, just show some ID and there won’t be an issue. A cop can knock on your door, ask for ID and if you don’t comply, you should be detained. What’s the difference between being in your house and in your yard?

I really don’t understand why this is a news worthy story, he fit the description. It’s not like the guy they were looking for was white and he tried to arrest a black man. I guess posting stories of how cops are racist is good click bait

The cop did nothing wrong. A fugitive was thought to be in that area due to a tip and the man fit the description of the fugitive. Of course the cop had to act. Once backup arrived and they determined he wasn't the fugitive they let him go.

In his defense they all do look the same

This was a terrible mistake. Officer should be disciplined or fired. It is worth noting, it didn’t end in the discharging of a weapon. Take note other officers.

No it shows a man abusing his power and ruining and innocent man and his families day for no reason.

Reading the article gives a sense that this was legitimate false identification on the officer's part. The man agreed that there were similarities when shown the wanted individual's picture, but the fugitive looked much older. The second officer agreed and the officers left.

I had a deputy briefly detain me. I fit a description of a fugitive. The deputy was white as was I. Following a lawful order when it’s given is the difference. It was cleared up in a few minutes. I could have acted like an asshole & gotten shot I suppose! Would you like that?
