A new California law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom offers Medi-Cal health insurance to lower-income undocumented immigrants. Some Republicans support it.

That law took effect Jan. 1, making California the largest state to offer government-subsidized health insurance to low-income undocumented residents of all ages., Republican Mathis now is making the case that providing Medi-Cal to undocumented residents is the “fiscally conservative” move for the state.
