Wells Fargo CEO Charles Scharf is apologizing for comments he made suggesting it is difficult to find qualified Black executives in the financial industry.

“There is no question Wells Fargo has to make meaningful progress to increase diverse representation,” he wrote. San Francisco-based Wells has pledged to increase hiring of minority candidates, particularly through Black colleges and universities, as well as new anti-racism training programs at the bank.

On Wednesday, Citigroup announced that it would direct $1 billion of the firm’s capital toward closing the “racial wealth gap” in the United States. It would include $550 million in homeownership programs for communities of color, and hundreds of millions toward Black-owned businesses and suppliers. About 13% of named executives at financial services companies are a racial or ethnic minority, according to Institutional Shareholder Services.

Hmmm, first time I'm even seeing 'qualified black executives'. I thought it was 'pool of talent'. Whats next, did he say the 'n' word too? Where is the real news?

This CEO is from a family who provided him with connections over him actually working his way up.

He don’t mean it. He can actually train people. I know a had WF and I saw a lot of blk employees at branches. He couldn’t set up a training program?

Especially when you don't interview any.

Wells Fargo is part of the engine behind the California Gold Rush...they owe us a portion of our pure reparations also.

Step down, your a true definition of a racist!

Why can't the shadow of black people be found in the International Mathematical Olympiad

Talk is cheap. Be different.

I have a finance degree, and trust me, Wells Fargo is not interested in even looking at black applications.

The amount of white mediocrity all over US is mind numbing and the fact that one has to hear its constant cacophony troubles the sacred zen space ( off Twitter)

He should resign

so what? words mean nothing in 2020 RESIGN... and maybe we believe

rotilaw He should apologize and more.

He could be right that they haven’t been given enough experience to be qualified.

And he knew exactly what he was saying.

It's called blaming the victim. The real problem is they would receive the same lack of support once hired and are then forced to leave. That way, companies get to put a check mark next to their diversity checkbox without ever having to promote them of give them a pension.

Maybe because we are being oppressed... I’ve been in the fraud Dept for 5 years and a trainer for 4... yet I was denied an interview for a team lead position... how could I ever make it to be and executive? I sent the ceo and all of his leaders an email because I was so fed up.

He needs to resign.

Why is he apologizing now. He shouldn’t have said it. It’s all about kindness and respect.

Wells Fargo can’t get out of its own way.

Perhaps Wells Fargo should have less customers next year than this year. I left a few years ago....it appears to be getting worse instead of better. Maybe a new CEO!

If it is true, why is he apologizing? He should only apologize if it isn't true.

Exactly why I took my minuscule $1600 and closed my account of 25 years! Bye Felicia !

No need to apologize 🤷🏿‍♂️....walk in your truth

mmfa nytimes WF CEO should apologize. But how does this NEA Dallas doctor continue to practice medicine after tons of hate speech? Why does one of the largest venture capital firm in the world support such a bigot? racist MuslimLivesMatter

Well that was quick. Too late though.

This is a terrible headline. It wasnt a 'suggestion' - it was blatantly racist.

Yeah.....F this guy. When someone shows you who he is believe him the first time.

Approximately 47% of African American males who enter the ninth grade graduate from high school (Bridgeland, Dilulio & Morison, 2006).In contrast, 80% of the principals indicated that students dropped out because they lacked the academic skills needed to successfully complete HS.

How about, Wells Fargo cultivate the talent they have. Wells Fargo has a multitude of black employees with Bachelors Degrees working as Tellers and Bankers and they neglect them when it comes to promotions

That’s what you get for trying to help by pointing out a problem. No good deed goes UNPUNISHED!

That’s it, just an apology? Wells Fargo is pretty bad at this stuff.

Time to clean house at Wells Fargo

🤡

There is so much wrong with Wells Fargo.

Why should he apologize. He is correct. Not a lot of picks in the business world. Why give someone a job for their skin color. Stop the political correctness madness. It will destroy our country and make business fail due to lack of talent.

He will go on to hire zero black people and continue to steal and defraud customers.

He meant it is difficult to find 'crooked' Black executives in the financial industry.

They don’t do this with women in their company they find or MAKE a way to hire more Beckys even if they’re UNQUALIFIED

Boycott Wells Fargo-- close your accounts.

It IS more difficult in many cases to find qualified minority executives. He didnt need to apologize for stating a fact. You do not fix a problem by pretending the problem does not exist just b/c of political correctness.

Apologies are a dime a dozen.

Well fraud go

Is it the truth?

Did he suggest or was that clearly stated?!?

You did not look hard enough. Board should fire him witout any severance. Pompous CEO.

He promises to lie next time.

IQ issue never goes away, does it....

Apologize for telling the hard truth...God Bless America

He could have avoided all this with: '...and it's even harder to find qualified White executives, now that they've all been exposed as racist homophobes.'

So he did say it

To Dump both Biden and Trump please vote for the MAKE AMERICA AMAZING 2020 Campaign Make America Amazing The only way

I'd imagine it would be difficult to find black candidates for executive positions when the person looking is a racist

Didn’t see that coming. I’m kidding. Everybody saw this LameShit coming

Criminal! He put my friends into mortgage, timeout even thought they did not ask for his help. By Wells doing this, my friends were stuck with a HIGH interest rate and could not renegotiate their interest rate. Criminal liable

He's not sorry

too late.

I mean it's wells Fargo did we expect anything different from them?

Good work mob! You made him apologize for saying a true statement and didn’t fix a goddamn thing as per usual.

That MFr dgaf

'Our white-ly designed pools are surprisingly very white.'

My avatar.

he can go f himself.

Think about how the lack of diversity is everywhere. For example, Toy Story to this day still has no Black toys. Once you see the discrimination, you see it everywhere.

Eh let him apologize then see if his actions speak louder than his words

If CharlesScharf is really sorry, he'll step down and donate his annual salary to the family of BreonnaTaylor. It's the least WellsFargo can do after surcharging Black folks into the poorhouse and making fake accounts in our name.

Fire. Him.

Making people apologize for speaking the truth will have all sorts of consequences later on.

ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE. ENEMY OF HUMANITY.

Well, if true, why apologize?

cancelwellsfargo

why apologize? he's EXACTLY right. the black community should address their problem, instead of YET AGAIN playing the victim
