Only once before this year has a Saudi leader delivered a speech to the U.N. General Assembly. Here’s AP Dubai’s ayaelb, who covers Saudi Arabia, on what King Salman’s speech Wednesday revealed about him and his kingdom.

In this image made from UNTV video, King Salman of Saudi Arabia, speaks in a pre-recorded message which was played during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, at UN headquarters.

“We in the kingdom, due to our position in the Muslim world, bear a special and historic responsibility to protect our tolerant Islamic faith from attempts by terrorist organizations and extremist groups to pervert it,” Salman said. The king oversees a nation that is the Arab world’s biggest economy and the planet’s most prolific oil producer. Saudi Arabia has long been a close U.S. ally in the region and a strategic partner, though some in American politics worry where the relationship will go in coming years given the unpredictability of the brash Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Road to Saudi ties with Israel being paved, cautiouslySaudi Arabia, the most powerful Arab nation and home to Islam’s holiest sites, has made clear that full ties between the kingdom and Israel can only happen when a peace agreement is reached with the Palestinians. Oh , always a negative spin on realDonaldTrump accomplishments, and then a positive spin on anything JoeBiden. So transparently bias. The Palestinians don't want peace. They are too invested in what their puppet masters in Tehran tell them to do. Of course.
