A U.S. intelligence assessment says any gains in women’s rights in Afghanistan in the last two decades will be at risk if the Taliban retake power after the U.S. withdraws later this year.

A U.S. flag is lowered as American and Afghan soldiers attend a handover ceremony from the U.S. Army to the Afghan National Army, at Camp Anthonic, in Helmand province, southern Afghanistan, Sunday, May 2, 2021.

It’s the latest U.S. warning of the consequences of the Afghan withdrawal now underway, two decades after an American-led coalition toppled the Taliban. Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, that there would possibly be “some really dramatic, bad possible outcomes” for Afghan forces left on their own to counter the Taliban, but also noted, “We frankly don’t know yet.

But there are persistent fears that, as the U.S. has negotiated with the Taliban on an exit from Afghanistan, women will be stripped of rights or once again beThe Taliban last month issued a statement promising that women could “serve their society in the education, business, health and social fields while maintaining correct Islamic hijab,” referring to the Arabic word for veil.

I don't give one single shiny fuck. Get us the hell out of there.

I think 🤔 They didn't came here for women right

FACT: If U.S hadn't attacked there wouldn't been any risk to women's rights in Afghanistan and hundreds of thousands of civilians wouldn't been killed.

Pathetic article. Printing propoganda for the war machine ain't cute.

Did Biden paid you guys to make his plans to reinvade Syria (middle east) seems good

Bring all USA troops home now and 100% by USA Memorial Day 2021 no more injuries or deaths of USA troops in Afghanistan. There are other avenues of support for women there and globally

Wow, what a breakthrough assessment. Is anyone actually surprised that a Taliban takeover would put women's rights 'at risk'? BTW, 'at risk'? Let's be honest, the Taliban will brutally murder women for speaking their minds or attempting to assert any rights.

They don’t actually care about women’s rights

What the United States needs to do is get all of the people who helped the United States military, and their families, out of the country to the United States. We owe them at least this.

And we have a Democrat in the White House 🤷🏼‍♀️

Men!

Almost 20 years and over a trillion dollars didn't solve the problem. You can't keep throwing money at the same problem and expect a different result.

In other words the sun will rise tomorrow.

Keep beating that war drum! 🥁

And the sky is blue.

Get out now!

America can not bring Afghanistan into the 21st century. They will have to figure out their country for themselves

We need to extend our peace keeping efforts by releasing more prisoners and increasing humanitarian aid.

You had 20 years to get rid of the Taliban. Why didn't you?

So are we world police or not? Which way western man

Understand, it is not the U.S.'s job to secure women's rights in another country. They have to do that. We can offer aid and support---but we can't do it for them.

Let the Afghans fight for their own country.

“U.S. intelligence” says anything to make the war machine continue.

So the USA gov who forcibly sterilized immigrant women is suddenly concerned about women's rights. Fool me once ...

So in 20 years they havent been able to train enough people to protect themselves? Trillions of dollars wasted.

Biden is a dope.

Haha this is the new justification for staying in Afghanistan. Newsflash: they don’t want us there.

The fascists' and terrorist Americans are only concerned in tearing apart the dress of women, and call it ''RIGHTS''. Rest in peace. Afghans know too good how to handle their affairs. You the terrorists gave Afghanistan a blood bath, and now your concerns are well known?

Afghan Taliban declares three-day ceasefire for Eid celebration this week -spokesmanTaliban insurgents said on Monday they would observe a three-day ceasefire in Afghanistan for the Muslim religious holiday of Eid, starting this week, after weeks of increasing violence that gripped the country. What about the 60 young girls you just killed when you blew up their school ? So who's blowing up the children? No ever claims responsibility. Ceasefire of that would be very nice It sounds like they are conciliatory and can sit down peaceful to exchange idea, what a harmonious scenery it is. So why don’t just act like this forever , to cope the argument and disagreement by communication rather than war. To protect the common citizens.
