Uber is offering riders a four-digit pin code to help ensure they're getting into the right car.

News headlines today: Jan. 7, 2020The ride-hailing company rolled out the new feature across the U.S. and Canada Tuesday and said all riders in those two countries will be able to use pin codes by the end of the week.

“They can see the confirmation before getting into the vehicle and they don't have to take the driver's word for it," said Rebecca Payne, senior product manager at Uber, who helped develop the feature. Riders can choose whether or not to use Uber's new pin code feature, or they can choose to use it only at night. Ride-hailing companies that cater to children have long used four-digit pin codes to help parents ensure their children are getting into the right car.

Uber and Lyft are both highly inefficient.

They already do this at many airports. It’s not new.

Maybe vehicles could be assigned a unique identifier and then that identifier could be stamped on a metal plate attached to the outside of the vehicle and the app could show that same identifier. 🤔

Makes sense.

the cars themselves have an eight digit pin on the front and back license plates, people are just drunk

hopefully this works both ways so that drivers can also verify people aren't stealing rides

Uber partners with Hyundai on electric air taxiU.S. ride-hailing company Uber Technologies Inc and South Korean automaker Hyund... Cool, maybe they could also ask Hyundai how to make a profit. So people would have to move and down out of what I assume would eventually be multiple levels of traffic, and if an accident happened or one failed, it would plummet through multiple levels of congested urban traffic to land on a car at the bottom? Sounds neat. We already have flying cars. They’re called helicopters & airplanes
