Trade deficits stem from our government budget deficits. The foreign demand for treasury debt creates demand for US dollars. The import purchases are a way to supply those dollars. A sudden jump in American demand for European stocks and bonds isn't going to happen.

This tariff thing is all the rage in the White House, it may come full circle and bite them on the bum (ass)🐰

A trade deficit is indicative of a service economy. Otherwise known as progress. Only this idiot thinks it is a bad thing.

UK uses threat of Brexit cliff-edge to demand EU trade deal by end of 2020UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will use the prospect of a Brexit cliff-edge at the end of 2020 to demand the EU gives him a comprehensive free trade deal in less than 11 months 'Give me a trade deal or I'm going to Trump.' ACatInParis FloVilleminot BaldingsWorld I would say that that is really the only way that you will get a satisfactory agreement out of the European Union. Theresa May's case is a cautionary tale. Petulant little boy. There's no way we will be done by then so why make crass promises. We might actually get a better deal if we wait which won't be so economic damaging for us.

Johnson uses threat of Brexit cliff-edge to demand EU trade deal by end of 2020UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will use the prospect of a Brexit cliff-edge at the end of 2020 to demand the EU gives him a comprehensive free trade deal in less than 11 months Pfft. This has always been the conundrum at the heart of Brexit: he’s not really in a position to demand anything from the EU. They have more to gain/preserve by dropping Britain like a hot potato than by being nice. what kind of offer Boris can provide to EU? He's playing into the hands of Scots and Irish nationalists, not to mention Putin and Trump, the EU has the financial clout to bury the UK if it so chooses, it can soak up the lost trade far more easily than an Island without direct trade routes under several hundred miles.
