UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will use the prospect of a Brexit cliff-edge at the end of 2020 to demand the EU gives him a comprehensive free trade deal in less than 11 months

LONDON - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will use the prospect of a Brexit cliff-edge at the end of 2020 to demand the European Union gives him a comprehensive free trade deal in less than 11 months.

“Our manifesto made clear that we will not extend the implementation period and the new Withdrawal Agreement Bill will legally prohibit government agreeing to any extension,” a senior government official said on Tuesday. A comprehensive free trade deal would encompass everything from financial services and rules of origin to tariffs, state aid rules and fishing, though the scope and sequencing of any future deal is still up for discussion.and to 84.59 pence against the euro EURGBP=D3, levels where it had traded before the scale of Johnson's victory became clear on Thursday evening and prompted strong gains. The pound is down more than 2% from a post-election high above $1.35 against the dollar.

The EU insists it will not seal a trade deal with a large, economically powerful neighbour without solid provisions to guarantee fair competition. But this would be crossing a red line for the EU, which would restrict access to its market to protect its own producers.

Chief surrenderer and autocracy-licker Johnson standing on a cliff-edge and threatening to commit more self-inflected harm. It’s responsible to minimise the damage such ill-guided give-uppers may cause to themselves and to others. Rejoin to win-win.

I really doubt the EU propaganda that they are better prepared than the UK for a WTO exit, if so why did they so readily drop the 'irremovable' backstop, from the 'unchangeable' TMay agreement when a WTO exit loomed near, earlier this year.

Except that this is all hooey. He won't do any such thing.

The reality...⬇️⬇️

What even is this appeal

Johnson has shown no interest in working with the EU.

Let’s hope he gets a comb for Christmas.

The objective facts are very different to the rhetoric of all politicians, including Boris Johnson.

It's a far bigger danger to the UK than the EU, and the EU is far better prepared for it. This is about as likely to work as if I threatened Bill Gates to give me a billion dollars or I'll punch myself in the face with a Windows Server.

“Nobody move! This is a robbery! Now: give me all the money or I should my brains out!”

ACatInParis FloVilleminot BaldingsWorld I would say that that is really the only way that you will get a satisfactory agreement out of the European Union. Theresa May's case is a cautionary tale.

Petulant little boy. There's no way we will be done by then so why make crass promises. We might actually get a better deal if we wait which won't be so economic damaging for us.

The muppet show.

'Give me a trade deal or I'm going to Trump.'
