Two L.A. City Council members are in the midst of a tug of war over who will represent USC. A city redistricting commission is bringing the issue to a head.

a nonprofit that Harris-Dawson ran before taking office, took a similar stand. And on Monday, Harris-Dawson’s appointee on the Redistricting Commission, Valerie Shaw, demanded an up-or-down vote from the 21-member commission, calling the return of USC a civil rights issue.

“The future of the African-American community lies” with the 8th District, she said. “So this vote is about the future of Black folks in L.A..”However, among voting-age citizens in his district, Black residents still make up the majority, according to redistricting figures. Asked about the controversy, USC officials did not say whether the university would prefer one district or the other. Samuel Garrison, USC senior vice president of university relations, said only that the University Park neighborhood, which includes USC, should be kept in a single district.

Supreme Court rules for police in two lawsuits claiming excessive forceUS Supreme Court rules that police officers in two cases should be shielded from lawsuits claiming their conduct killed one man and injured another. Agreed, police officers aren't trained properly and it varies from state to state. Roads are different, weather is different, and people are different. So we can't call police criminals, they defend the constitution still. I just believe that police should be appointed by mayors. The Supreme Court is illegitimate. The decisions are ideological, not legal. The police are court officers and the American justice system is incapable of fairly judging itself.
