FAIRBANKS, Alaska - On Sunday, Feb.11 at approximately 3:49 p.m. a man from Delta Junction was killed in a vehicle accident on the Richardson Highway at milepost 259.
An Alaska State Troopers investigation reported that 45-year-old Adam Rushing was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban at a high rate of speed on the Richardson highway, about five miles south of Delta Junctions and two miles north of Fort Greely, when his vehicle slammed into the back of a military Humvee. The Humvee had a mechanical issue and was traveling at a slow speed with its hazard lights on.
The Richardson Highway was shut down for approximately four hours while the scene was cleared. One lane was open during the clearing for about 30 minutes to let traffic through. The highway re-opened up both lanes at approximately 10:30 p.m.
