The barista allegedly asked the officers to move out of the customer's line of sight or to leave.

PHOENIX – A group of police officers were reportedly asked to move or leave a Starbucks coffee shop on the Fourth of July because a customer felt uncomfortable.

According to a tweet from the Tempe Officers Association, six Tempe Police Department officers were drinking coffee before their shift at the Starbucks near Scottsdale and McKellips roads when a barista told them a customer "did not feel safe" by their presence. The barista allegedly asked the officers to move out of the customer's line of sight or to leave, the tweet states.

"This treatment of public safety workers could not be more disheartening. While the barista was polite, making such a request at all was offensive. Unfortunately, such treatment has become all too common in 2019," the organization wrote."We know this is not a national policy at Starbucks Corporate and we look forward to working collaboratively with them on this important dialogue.

"We have a deep respect for the Tempe Police and their service to the community," he said."We've reached out to the Tempe Police Department and Tempe Officers Association to better understand what happened and apologize. We want everyone in our stores to feel welcomed and the incident described is not indicative of what we want any of our customers to feel in our stores."The Police Department said it hoped the incident was an isolated incident.

Pathetic it is ... for the customer and employee!!!

Well, they do carry guns.

My guess? Her name will be in the paper soon for some crime she committed. The dirt doesn’t hide for too long

I don’t get why the customer wouldn’t feel safe with 6 police officers unless the customer is feeling guilty about something

The only reason anyone would have not felt safe around a police officer is if they were guilty of something. Or a police officer had done something harmful to them. I find it hard to believe the latter!

Absolutely shameful. No one should be asked to leave a public establishment.

Opportunity to find out why....there are people that have legitimate fear of cops. How can we change it?

DBChirpy the reflection is on the officers as their job is to protect and serve.

Right or wrong, one doesn’t have to look far to find the reason. The PHX PD make me uncomfortable too. PHX PD why we keep dash cams in our vehicles.

Arriadna GOOD. I definitely do not feel safe around cops. wait a min ... didn't people use to say the same thing about Muslims on airlines and they were kicked out of flights for no reason whatsoever? how is that any different? Heart Breaking. To the officers that selflessly risk their lives every day and to their family that fear if they are coming home or not at the end of the day, thank you.
