Original musical “Unmasked” to premiere in Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Interior Independent Theatre is putting on a production of an original work by Fairbanks playwright Michelle Risse, titled “Unmasked” which starts Friday, March 8.

Now the 38-year-old playwright is premiering her original work on the Fairbanks stage. According to Risse, “It’s main theme is ‘Everyone has a story.’” According to the playwright, who is also directing, work on the play began two years ago. “I went on a really bad date during the quarantine and was like ‘That was really awful. I feel inspired to write a song,’ and then I was like, ‘Hey, this is pretty good. I should write a whole vignette, a short play about me,’ and then I was like ‘You know what? I’ll bet there’s a lot more stories out there,’ and so I wrote a whole play,” she said.
