A bomb squad responded to the Federal Building as staff were evacuated.

Published: Feb. 13, 2024 at 3:30 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - Staff at the Federal Building in Fairbanks were told to evacuate the building immediately and go home. This took place at 10:45 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, Feb. 13.

“I guess there is a suspicious package and the bomb squad is on the way,” said employee Bryce Lake. “That’s all I know.”An Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit from Fort Wainwright was dispatched to investigate the alert. They cleared the building and found no cause for alarm, and the all-clear was announced by noon.

“The suspicious package in Fairbanks was a false alarm,” confirmed Officer Christi Chidester Votisek of Northwest/Arctic Region Public Affairs. “The building was evacuated out of caution while it was being investigated.”Copyright 2024 KTVF. All rights reserved.
