The family of Andrew Brown Jr., the Black man who was fatally shot in his car by sheriff’s deputies in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, will only be shown a fraction of body camera footage recorded at the scene, a judge ruled.

Family members react during the funeral for Andrew Brown Jr., Monday, May 3, 2021, at Fountain of Life Church in Elizabeth City, N.C. Brown was fatally shot by Pasquotank County Sheriff deputies trying to serve a search warrant.

Attorneys for Andrew Brown Jr.’s family had expected to see the video as soon as this week after Judge Jeffery Foster Brown’s shooting on April 21 has drawn national attention to the small, majority Black city in the state’s rural northeastern corner. And many city residents — as well as nationally prominent civil rights leaders and attorneys — are demanding full release of the footage over concerns that the shooting was unjustified and that Brown was “executed.”Foster’s order contained a brief description of the footage.

Family members have so far only been allowed to view a 20-second clip from a single body camera. Family attorney Chantel Cherry-Lassiter told reporters last week that shots were heard from the instant the clip started with Brown’s car in his driveway and his hands on the steering wheel.

The DA is corrupt, the sheriffs are certainly corrupt, and the judge is starting to smell too...where is FBI and Justice Department at this point? FBI TheJusticeDept . .

🖕🏽the Judge…DOJ needs to step in…😡

What

Again, what are they afraid of showing?

leeshutterbug I'm ashamed to be a North Carolinian. We the people will accept NOTHING MORE than complete transparency.

Judges complicit in hiding evidence must be removed from office and disbarred for life

That’s better for their mental health 🤷🏽‍♀️ sadly the world doesn’t care much about that.

Why not? If you have nothing hide release it all, but by not releasing the cam it makes us suspicious of what really happened

This is getting old smh

Outrageous, they are obviously hiding something.

Crazy that the police could only find 20seconds of them not breaking the law to show people.

Arriadna So, protect those sworn to protect. Got it.

That’s not okay!!

I know there can be shakiness and uncertainty with bodycam video but at least don’t hide parts of it. 😡

bizzare.

On one hand if they are behind paying they will not catch up so eviction is inevitable. On the other hand the group appears to think if the moratorium is removed there will be programs in place to help with rent and taxes... The landlord don't seem to realize it is lose lose.

A Federal Judge Remembers the Real Victims of the Pandemic: LandlordsRemember the pandemic, when for just a second it seemed as though there were orders in place to keep landlords from booting desperate people out on the street? (Of course landlords could still keep a running tally of how much to bleed out of them as soon as they were given the governmental all-clear.) Well, pandemic’s over folks, at least according to a federal judge who ruled it was never fair to mandate compassion in the first place.\n
