Japan's government has decided to start releasing treated radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean in two years — an option fiercely opposed by fishermen, residents and Japan's neighbors.

said ocean release was the most realistic option and that disposing the water is unavoidable for the decommissioning of the Fukushima plant, which is expected to take decades. He also pledged the government would work to ensure the safety of the water and to prevent damaging rumors on local agriculture, fisheries and tourism.Electric Power Co.

Local fisheries have just returned to full operation after a decade in which their catch was only for testing purposes, and they are struggling due to dwindling demand. Environmental activists wearing a mask of Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and protective suits perform to denounce the Japanese government's decision on Fukushima water, in Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday.Protestors also gathered outside the Prime Minister's Office to demand the plan be retracted.

Releasing the water to the ocean was described as the most realistic method by a government panel that for nearly seven years had discussed how to dispose of the water. The report it prepared last year mentioned evaporation as a less desirable option.

Humans... Just PAR for the fucking course!

Why do you criticize only Japan? Annual tritium emissions from facilities around the world 🇨🇳China:Daya Bay NPP 42 TBq 🇰🇷Korea:wolseong NPP 17 TBq Kori NPP 36 TBq 🇯🇵Japan :Fukushima NPP 2.2 TBq

Just drink it

Nuke power plants. The gift that keeps giving FOREVER

Overall, it will affect all our expats living near countries and Japan. What a disappointing decision they did. 😔

Only the United States is very happy? In a few years, pollution will reach the coast of the US. US politicians do not take the interests of other countries or the interests of the US people in eyes. Only know how to sell arms and launch wars to subvert the government all day long

唯独美国很高兴啊?几年后污染就会到达美国海岸了,你们美国政治家既不别国利益放在眼里,也不把美国人民利益放在眼里,整天只知道卖军火,到处发动战争颠覆政府!

Don't

Yay!!

Can you send your athletes to Japan, which has decided to release tritium-contaminated water generated into the Pacific Ocean at this time?

That water is not going to be that much less radioactive in two years!! Hell no do not release!!👎👎

What could possibly go wrong?

“Treated” Ugh, hopefully this does not happen.

Y ¿donde está Greta?

I thought our goal here was to take steps to once again purify the oceans. This instead? If fools can't handle the mess from their stupid mistakes, don't pretend to be smart enough to build and handle the insanely flawed machines that inevitably fail and wreak environmental havoc

The International Atomic Energy Agency iaeaorg concurs with Japan's plan.

I live in Canada and I am worried! I have stopped eating seafood from pacific since the disaster and I will from now on stop eating anything from Japan specifically. Japannuclearwastewater Blinken WhiteHouse America ClimateCrisis ClimateAction

YOU DONT HAVE FREE SPEECH. THIS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED FOR OVER A WEEK AMONG CHINA KOREA AND JAPAN. But most Americans don't know because the media start to report it JUST NOW.

Looking forward to Godzilla’s reaction.

😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Why the Japanese not to drink the water?

Naw. Fuck that shit. Somebody needs to stop this. greenpeaceusa can you do something?

Opposed by some.. Favored by others.

Thank You NBC for reporting this. It’s a long way and takes time. This method is already used around the world. Japan will work with IAEA.

And they say we pollute the most

This is par for the course. This is the only option capitalism allows for. If you oppose this, you oppose capitalism.

When I go to Japan I’m not taking my bathers

How can anyone in the world support this?

Nuclear fish incoming

UNEP confirm if this is in order pliz

What could go wrong 🤦🏼‍♀️

Just no.
