Immigration and border security top concerns for Texans, with bipartisan support growing

Three-quarters of Republican voters in Texas said the number of migrants trying to cross from Mexico into the U.S. is a “crisis.” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, has been leading a high-profile fight against the federal government over border enforcement amid record levels of migrant border crossings.Encounters fell to between about 176,000 and around 190,000 in each of the last three months.

A majority of Texans who expressed concerns about the number of migrants attempting to cross the border said they were very concerned about the strain on local resources, national security, the impact on crime, and the impact on the economy.A majority of Texas voters in the poll supported all but one state effort to address migration at the southern border. The only action without majority support was preventing U.S. Border Patrol personnel from accessing parts of the Texas-Mexico border.
