Just days before the start of the Iditarod, officials with the race aren't specifically talking about disqualified musher Brent Sass and the impacts his alleged behavior could have on the Iditarod. Race director Mark Nordman responded, in part, by saying this year will be great race and that there's 'enough said on that.

Musher Brent Sass says accusations come from people trying to destroy his career.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Just days before the start of the Iditarod Trail Dog Sled Race, officials have declined to comment on theirand the impacts his alleged sexual assaults could have on the iconic Alaskan race.

The Iditarod Trail Committee Board on Feb. 22 issued a simple news release on Sass’s disqualification that states, “The Iditarod Trail Committee Board convened a special meeting on February 22, 2024, where the Board unanimously voted, pursuant to Rule 53, to disqualify Brent Sass from competing in the 2024 Iditarod.”MORE: A timeline of accusations against Iditarod musher Brent Sass

“I am writing on behalf of multiple survivors who wish to remain anonymous for their own physical and emotional safety,” Rose O’Hara-Jolley with Planned Parenthood wrote. “Over the past six years I have been approached in my capacity as an advocate by many women from diverse backgrounds and across Alaska.”Kuskokwim race manager Paul Basile wrote in an email that race officials were informed in the fall of 2023 “of a number of allegations against Brent Sass.

“All the accusations are completely false and have zero bases in truth, they are made up by people that are trying to ruin my reputation and end my career,” said Sass in an interview with Alaska’s News Source.
