ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Former Iditarod champion Brent Sass has been disqualified from competing in the 2024 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.earlier this month, is the second musher this week to be barred from the race by the Iditarod Trail Committee, and said he is “beyond disappointed” by the decision by the committee.
In a one-sentence press release, the board wrote members unanimously voted to remove Sass from this year’s race, pointing to: “All Iditarod mushers will be held to a high standard of personal and professional conduct. Musher conduct that is recklessly injurious to the Iditarod, Iditarod competitors, sponsors or anyone associated with the race is strictly prohibited.”
Sass responded Friday to the decision in a social media post through the Wild and Free Mushing kennel that all accusations made against him are “completely false,” but that he plans to continue serving as an “ambassador of the sport,” and thanked his fans and supporters.
