The scope of U.S. Soccer’s failure is highlighted by the fact that this summer marks the 20th anniversary of the legendary 1999 World Cup final in which the U.S. women’s national team defeated China on post-overtime penalty kicks before 90,000 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The ‘99ers remain American sports icons, but they also epitomize U.S. Soccer’s neglect. The team returned victorious from that World Cup as national heroes poised for huge commercial success.
U.S. Soccer’s belief that its men’s and women’s teams are separate and unequal is stunning. And it makes clear that the Federation as currently conceived is no longer fit to oversee the women’s program. But true or not, U.S. Soccer’s defense leads to the question: WhyGiven its role in creating today’s system of soccer oversight, Congress should consider amending the Amateur Sports Act to require two different soccer federations, one for U.S. women’s soccer and another for the men.
And it should be much more willing to protest and contest FIFA’s ongoing refusal to fairly value women’s soccer.
The reality is not that female athletes are undervalued, it is that the market, in general, does not consider women’s athletic contests to have as much entertainment value as those of their male counterparts.
When the women won in 2015 they brought in $73 million. When the men played in 2010 and only made it to the round of 16 they still made $4 billion for the US. That right there shows why there’s a disparency.

Who makes more money? The fact the women are more successful doesn’t mean they earn more than the men. It’s not the same competition they play in. If the women make more the should earn the equivalent. It’s wrong to take the women’s money and spend on men.
It's simple economics, women's soccer doesn't generate nearly enough money to sustain itself, let alone pay out lavish salaries. It's just not a good product that people want.
FIFA bylaws stipulate that a player on a national team be paid according to whatever their clubs are paying them on a prorated basis.If these women want more pay than they need to play on clubs that pay better salaries.
