The wild history of presidential campaigns has a lesson: Nobody knows anything

reported that Colorado Sen. Gary Hart had beaten Mondale in New Hampshire by 10 points—a win that upended the race completely and put Hart on a path to win a series of primaries. Still, by the time it was over, Mondale was saved by black voters in Alabama and Georgia, by big-city Democrats in Illinois and New York, and by questions about the “unknown” Hart.

Just in the third quarter of 2003, Dean raised $15 million, almost all of it in small donations. His anti-Iraq War message had won him a significant lead in the polls. At year’s end, CNN reported that Dean was polling twice as high as his nearest rivals. Both of the Democratic contenders from 2000—Al Gore and Bill Bradley—endorsed him.

Reagan faced a similar, if more abbreviated, challenge four years later. After Reagan lost the Iowa caucuses, prominent NBC analyst Tom Pettit said, “I would like to suggest that Ronald Reagan is politically dead.” Six weeks later, Reagan’s landslide win in New Hampshire put him on the road to the nomination and the White House.

Goldman's 'nobody knows anything' Hollywood quip is apt. So is Henny Youngman's 'compared to what?' line. The FITN Dem campaign in NH is fluid. More voters remain up for grabs than in the summers of '16, '07, '04, '00. nhpolitics

It's too early to prognosticate. There hasn't even been a debate, yet.

Especially you

I DO know the Democrats offer the most diverse field of candidates in Presidential history. Older, younger, gay, straight, Black, Latino, White, men, women, big-city, small-town, mayors, Reps, Senators & Governors. With so many choices, it looks like the salad bar at Denny's. 👍🏼

Do regular Americans pay attention to what's happening? do they even have the time day to day to keep up? Now more than ever? 👀🇨🇦

Polling is completely and utterly broken. I'm sixty and haven't had a land line in a very long time. I don't even remember how long any more. They ought to try doing it by mail.

Why are Beyonce fans sending death threats to the Warriors majority owner’s wife?Nicole Curran, wife of Golden State Warriors majority owner Joseph Lacob, says she's getting death threats over a video that shows her leaning over Beyonce. Is this supposed to be normal and acceptable behavior? Seems a rather frivoulous ('The Beehive is out to sting') title for a story about 'death threats' - or are they so common now, it gets written up like this? When your fans are sending someone death threats YOU need to come out explicablely and tell them it’s not okay. You don’t have your publicisit do it.
