Gov. Abbott, show real leadership on gun violence

Greg Abbott this week issued a call for special legislative committees to compile recommendations on school safety, mental health, social media, police training and firearm safety.

It’s not as though the governor has been shy before about telling us what he wants. He’s used the office’s bully pulpit to push forward property tax reform and a broad range of other state issues. And last year, he openly supported and signed into law a bill that allows Texans to carry handguns without a license or training despite polling showing that a majority of Texas voters don’t favor permitless carry.

The “conservative” Dallas Morning News editorial board strikes again. Children continue to be killed. The DMN Ed board continues to hold water for Republicans who refuse to act and Abbott, who explicitly has made the situation worse. How disgraceful DMNOpinion.

Delusional to think Abbot cares about the slaughter of school children more than he cares about his political career. Uvalde is not the first mass attack and he has done nothing. He is owned by the likes of the NRA.

Did you know? In 2019, rifles were used in a whopping 364 homicides Knives - 1,476 homicides, over 3x as many as rifles Hands/feet/fists - 600 homicides, also more than rifles Handguns - 6,365 homicides. Over 17x as many as rifles But let’s ban AR15’s. That makes sense.

What a trash take. Setting it up where insane men can purchase an assault weapon minutes before they massacre small children IS NOT “real leadership.”
