Texas Governor Greg Abbott passes in front of a memorial outside Robb Elementary School to honor the victims killed in this week's school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Sunday, May 29, 2022. Gov. Greg Abbott wants state officials to randomly inspect schools to test safety protocols after a gunman burst into an elementary school in Uvalde and killed 19 children and two teachers.

Also on Wednesday, Abbott asked lawmakers to convene special legislative committees to examine what legislation and action might be taken to prevent future school shootings. He specified a focus on mental health, social media, police training and firearm safety. His letter did Abbott’s letter to Martinez-Prather notes that the state should institute “a culture of constant vigilance is engrained in every campus and in every school district employee across the state.”

How about a background check? How about the inability to purchase a gun if you’re behind or not making child support payments? You have no business buying a gun if you’re not taking care of your children or can’t pass a background check. (2of2)

How about appealing the ability to carry a gun a concealed weapon law? How about raising the age to buy a gun to 21, after a required course to prove you know how to properly use it? (1of2)

This guy?

This isn’t a school problem this is a gun problem. The schools have done more than enough on this, now it’s the politicians job to actually put in the work and fix the sh*t that’s gone on far too many lives long!

Think might be a better idea to make difficult to earn a badge. Braver police would have did there job after dispatch notified shooter location even if already known. Since when locked doors stop police from entering any door. Must think everyone gullible He may be misled again.

passing the buck into punitive threats against educators. nice, greg. real nice.

And yet another mass shouting. This time in Tulsa. Time for Republican thoughts & prayers. Along with teachers should we not start arming doctors & nurses. Or perhaps hospitals should only have one door

This will not help! Ban assault weapons NOW!!

Random? How about an extensive safety check. How about checking all exterior doors to ensure the lock properly. How about bullet proof windows? How about efficient training and communication with School and local police as to who has authority.

Gov. Greg Abbott asks for legislative recommendations in response to Uvalde shootingNew: In response to the Uvalde school shooting, Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday called on the Texas Legislature to form special committees to make legislative recommendations on firearm safety, school safety, mental health, social media and police training. The special committees are different from a special legislative session, which Texas Democrats — and at least a couple Republicans — have asked for after the shooting. Gov. Greg Abbott has not ruled that out. Recommendation: impeach Abbott, Dan Patrick, and Ken Paxton for failing Texas. Why doesn’t he listen to all of the people in this state and address the issue of too baby guns!? Skip the legislative committee for GOD’S sake! Open your damn eyes!
