As women fought for and won the fight for the right to vote, Girl Scouts of the USA founder Juliette Gordon Low mentored young women on how their government worked before they could even fully participate in it.
Birdsall Otis Edey, a troop leader and eventual president of Girl Scouts of the USA, served in the New York State League of Women Voters and hosted suffrage events in her home. Now, 60% of the women in the current U.S. Congress are Girl Scout alumni and all three women who have held the Cabinet position of U.S. secretary of states are former Girl Scouts, according to the Girl Scouts Public Policy and Advocacy Office.Girl Scouts of the USA
Scouts cooked and distributed meals, helped sick patients and delivered messages during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. They prepared broths for patients and gave sick people a sense of comfort in a tumultuous time. Some of the badges they could earn included personal health, public health and home nurse.
“Girl Scouts has always asked girls to imagine what the world can be and then giving them the tools to do it,” said Kelly Parisi, Girl Scouts vice president of communications.

No, they haven't. When I was young (only 30 years ago) the Girl Scouts were still about turning girls into 'good homemakers' and wives.
