One of the honorees, April, isn’t just a paramedic -- she’s a COVID-19 survivor, too. Her niece nominated her, saying her aunt didn’t hesitate to get back to work as soon as she recovered.
Xavier, a 17-year-old grocery store worker, was nominated by his little sister for his hard work ethic. “He has asthma, and he still risks it to help out,” she says. A group of students nominated their beloved teacher, Pam, saying, “Even though we didn’t get to finish our school year, our teacher showed us that learning can take you anywhere in the world.”
Sarah, a nursing assistant, was nominated for her patience and dedication as a caregiver. Her granddaughter says when she’s not working, she’s feeding the homeless in her community. The fifth winner, a pilot named Laurent, was nominated by his daughter for flying a team of doctors to Haiti -- and then shuttling back U.S. citizens who had been stranded there.
