The former sheriff took aim at, the chief of police at the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, who was the incident commander.

Mendeke said that Arredondo’s response was “not normal” and that officers on the scene should have taken command away from him.State Sen. Roland Gutierrez, whose district includes Uvalde, said Thursday that Arredondo was not informed of panicked 911 calls from victims inside Robb Elementary School. Dispatchers relayed the information instead to the Uvalde Police Department.

It isn’t clear why Arredondo didn’t know of the panicked 911 calls from the classroom. Border patrol eventually arrived to kill Ramos. During the incident, 19 officers were inside the school building for 45 minutes before the gunman was finally killed by a Border Patrol tactical team. The officers came from several agencies, including the Uvalde school district and Uvalde Police Department.

Abbott wants random school safety checks after Uvalde shooting“Staff should approach campuses to find weak points and how quickly they can penetrate buildings without being stopped,' Gov. Abbott wrote. Random? How about an extensive safety check. How about checking all exterior doors to ensure the lock properly. How about bullet proof windows? How about efficient training and communication with School and local police as to who has authority. This will not help! Ban assault weapons NOW!! And yet another mass shouting. This time in Tulsa. Time for Republican thoughts & prayers. Along with teachers should we not start arming doctors & nurses. Or perhaps hospitals should only have one door
