Volunteers from Oakland Rotary Club #3 and Trees for Oakland planted three kinds of oaks recently in the median strip along Skyline Boulevard in the Oakland hills.Crime is a top concern for many business owners in the Oakland hills, especially in the midst of ongoing negative news coverage. The Montclair Village Association is exploring several ideas to curb the rash of thefts and break-ins, including adding more patrols like we saw during the holidays.

The city bought the 5- and 10-gallon white oaks, valley oaks and coastal live oaks to replace trees that came down during last year’s storms. Drivers and hikers will see the plantings in the median between Skyline High School and Keller Drive.Oakland Rotary Club #3 is the third oldest Rotary club in the country out of some 4,000 nationwide. The downtown-based club also plans to plant trees in East and West Oakland, as part of the urban forestry program.
