News4 spoke with one reading coach about the importance of supporting students with dyslexia and how these books can be a helpful tool. The company designed a collection of books to help students with dyslexia build confidence.“Part of my role as an instructional coach is to know that one in every 10 students might possibly have characteristics of dyslexia,” Smith said.Smith works with teachers to provide the best approach to literacy for students.“For me, number one I’m a mama first.

Smith and other teachers are able to help students excel in reading through multi-sensory approaches and tutoring. While those books do not replace traditional learning, Smith said they could be a good support tool. “Using the strategies that we are using as educators now, a child can pick up any book. So, just as long as parents know the strategies they can use to help their kids, any book that is available to help meet the needs of our kids is important,” she said.

The book collection was created through extensive research about children with dyslexia and what helps them work through the disorder.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning. Get instant notifications on top stories from News 4 by downloading our
