Four people were injured Sunday night after a 29-year-old wrong-way driver caused a head-on collision in San Marcos, a sheriff's official said. Witnesses called 911 just before 8 p.m. to report seeing a blue Honda SUV heading west in the eastbound lanes of South Santa Fe Avenue near North Rancho Sante Fe Road. The area is about two blocks north of state Route 78. The wrong-way driver collided with a red Honda SUV and a white Toyota, Deputy Juan Soto-Rodriguez said in a news released.
A couple with an infant were in the red Honda. A 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were transported to a hospital with serious injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Soto-Rodriguez said. The baby was secured in a car seat and was taken to Rady Children's Hospital to be evaluated. The 46-year-old driver of the white Toyota car was checked out by paramedics and released.
