Cal State San Marcos enters Final Four game with focus on trust, family

During her team's run through the NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament, Cal State San Marcos coach Renee Jimenez has been sporting a T-shirt with the word 'Family' on it. It's about the Cougars' players, sure — but also a nod to Jimenez and her assistant coaches' own families, which have hit St. Joseph, Mo., with a bustle of youthful energy. There are eight kids under 13 in the traveling party. 'We bring everybody in.

overcame a double-digit deficit in the third quarter, forced overtime — and then, with Vasquez and Ava Ranson on the bench after fouling out, sunk the tournament's No. 1 team. Mila Mastora's 3-pointer with 6 seconds remaining completed the upset — and reinforced the family feel. 'There's a lot of trust in this group that can make big shots, and I think that starts with the work that they put in outside of practice,' Jimenez said.

, meanwhile, is in uncharted territory — and loving it. 'Apparently, they don't want to go home yet,' Jimenez said. 'We're going to ride this wave as long as we can.' Wednesday's Final Four game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network. The network will also carry the day's earlier semifinal between No. 2 Texas Woman's University and No. 3 Ferris State.
