The Padres have been impressed by 17-year-old Leodalis De Vries during his first spring training with the organization. Despite his young age, De Vries has shown great skill and acumen in the game. He has exceeded expectations and has caught the attention of the Padres' assistant farm director. De Vries, who was signed for $4.2 million in January, made an impressive debut in a big-league 'B' game shortly after arriving in Phoenix.

De Vries continues to exceed expectations throughout a whirlwind first spring training with the organization. “It’s been a fast-moving train for him,” Padres assistant farm director Mike Daly said.

“He opened up eyes in terms of him as a person and his baseball skill and acumen. The game wasn’t too fast for him. It was impressive to see.” From the jump, too. Signed for $4.2 million as the Padres’ latest prize in the international amateur market in January, De Vries left the Dominican Republic for the first time in March, played in a big-league ‘B’ game some 12 hours after landing in Phoenix and pulled an 0-2 offering from Alek Jacob into right field for a hit, all with Preller watching from behind the backsto
