Universities are currently restricted by a cap on the number of places they can offer to study medicine
She says that could mean accepting more students than they had originally planned to, although that would bring other complications like capacity issues, a need for more staff, and trying to operate within Covid-safe conditions. "Every meeting I go into, everybody is just talking about how these poor students must be feeling in all of this. It might be just another year for us, but it is the only year these students will be applying for university and it's been awful for them.
The university has had to be very reactive to try and"unpick" the issues created by the policy changes, she says, and rather than wait for the teacher-assessed grades to be verified by Ucas, they are piecing together all the evidence supplied by students.
They are just after money?
So I'm sure they can cope dears next news
Media led undermining of a fair system leads to chaos. Another great contribution by our media.
Govt has a lot to answer for - but they’ll blame it on someone else I have no doubt
Why is this year any different. Well actually it is there will be far more places this year as thousands of international students wont be coming here. The Chinese have said they wont be here and Surrey university alone has around 10000 Chinese each year. So lots of spaces free
another consequence of Tory messes up. shame on them .they played with the future of many students.
How man times does the bbc have to use the term ‘U turn’ on English results but not on welsh, northern Irish or Scottish?
I’m still my All my 12 A standard understanding rules
We're almost at a Point were this country would be better off closing 80% of its Universities who are robbing the Parent of self entitle Brats of their fees to give them totally useless degree! What's needed is quality apprenticeships making these youngers worth something!!
Ok fine as no foreign students this yr so shld b able to cope. But how many students will once start find it’s not for them or it’s too hard a course & drop out!
No panic, we can water down higher education to increase capacity and help young people stave off unemployment for a few years. More loans has to be a sound economic decision; BorrowFromTheFuture. May become an unproductive nation but qualified to analyse why.
What is happening about btec results. Does nobody care about them
Give the screaming spoilt child what they want when they throw a tantrum , this is what you get. Suppose they will now throw a tantrum when they can’t get through clearing
What good are these degrees? No jobs for these young people. No skills for the economy
Who takes responsibility for the decision to avoid ‘grade inflation’ and subsequently to allow it
How come there's such a massive improvement in last year? The algorithm may not have been fair on some. But the teacher's grades are plainly far too generous. As you might expect i suppose.
Why would you want to go to university this year? No social events, online classes, masks... Even more of a waste of money than usual.
'Crazy' demand..This from a generation who jump on anyone or anything discriminating..So they think it's ok to use the term 'Crazy'? Clearly a derogatory term used to describe people with mental health issues..What a bunch of double standard..drama Queen whining wankers.
With unemployment on the rise, this is a sensible move, but I would encourage students to consider their future in an ever evolving and volatile world, where employment roles are rapidly changing. For many - Perhaps something entrepreneurial alongside their studies.
It takes ONE IDIOT to screw an Education system that has been smooth for decades!
Unbelievable. This is the reality of the 'me,me,me everybody gets a prize' world we now live in.
well of course they are, given the insistence of BJ and GW that the grades were correct, robust, fair etc and then admitting they werent.
2020 students given free top grades and demand goes up? No surprise their. The number of students who got their predicted grades increase by 376% from 2019.
Mad demand, bruv.
A bunch of halfwits off to do Media Studies at some former Poly, I guess some things haven't changed in 2020...
That's because the predictions were hugely inflated. Did I see that the number of A*s doubled? But instead of making this clear, the left-wing media went on their usual rampage against the Conservatives, when the SNP in Scotland and Labour in Wales used EXACTLY THE SAME SYSTEM.
I thought tuition fees were supposed to deter students from wanting to go to university so why the 'crazy demand'? Isn't that the usual narrative you peddle? 🤔
Maybe the universities should give some of students summer jobs to help sort this mess out.
9000+ a year for a degree is a crazy demand
Cos everyone complained and got 4 A*’s
Do we have an indication of the number of students who now have the results for their first choice Uni's?
