Rebecca goes to check in on 12-year-old Kevin and he’s annoyed that he’s never been able to do pull-ups. She doesn’t get the big deal, but he says everyone was laughing at him as he was just hanging there on the bar for two minutes. She tells him that not everything is going to come easy to him and he’ll have to work hard to become the person she knows he can be. “It will make the big victories in life even more special,” she says.
The girls try to tell him it's normal, but Randall is still beating himself up. Tess and Annie get up and leave, but Deja sticks around so she can tell her dad some good news. Then Jack picks up the box of pin the tail on the donkey and admires the drawing on it. It features three kids—two boys and a girl. One boy is Black, the other is white, and the girl is taller than them both. It looks nearly identical to the Pearson kids, and here's the craziest thing about it: That was the actual cover from 1981 . We then flash back to a toy store—the last scene ever filmed for the show—and Jack is holding baby Kevin when they find the game on the shelves.
Kate then says her nightmare is that the three of them drift apart now that Rebecca is gone. She knows they won’t be estranged, but given their busy lives, she's aware it could be easy to drift. “We’re not going to drift,” Randall assures her. Randall then says when he closes his eyes and pictures his family, the first image is not Beth and the girls, but that of Mom and Dad and the two of them as their younger selves. Kate and Kevin say the same is true for them.
