Brewers are worried that cuts to tax relief could bring more challenges during an already difficult time.

Currently through the Small Brewers' Relief scheme the amount of beer produced by a brewery determines how much tax they pay.

Under the plans, small breweries producing between 2,100 hectolitres and 5,000 hectolitres of beer a year would no longer get the tax relief.William Harris, who helps run the Wild Card Brewery in east London, said they had managed to stay afloat during the pandemic by setting up an online shop. "It will definitely hit our bottom line," he said."It just creates more problems in a really, really challenging environment."He added:"We've got another winter ahead of us and now this on top of that is really, really hard."

The Treasury, however, said it is supporting small breweries and that 80% will be unaffected by the proposed changes.
