As Netflix celebrates Black History Month, filmmakers celebrate the diverse voices which represent the Black British experience.

His short film, Entitled, is part of the collection which also includes the classic 1980s TV sitcom Desmond's set in a barber shop in Peckham, south London, and the new thriller His House, which follows a family's escape from war-torn South Sudan into even worse horrors in the UK.

"I think what we're providing is possibility, we're providing an opportunity for people to dream beyond what the confines of that screen can do."In curating the collection - which is titled Black British Stories - Michael says he wanted to"focus on stories that depicted joy and not just trauma" because"those are the stories often being shown"., a celebration of sisterhood, but Michael says it is also a depiction of what it means to be a black British girl.

It is the first film that writer Theresa Ikoko has been involved in and she says she hadn't realised how one dimensional the film industry was until she joined it.Ikoko told Sky News:"I hadn't realised why I hadn't seen more stories by people from more variations of backgrounds, from different communities and reflecting different sides of what it means to be British."

Yea cus they're all little children that smash things when they can't get their own way... 😂 😂 😂

Is that right?

Black fragility.

Emerdale farm, full of Bame actors, when do you ever see black people in farming community’s in Yorkshire?

Black history month again? Is it black history month every month now? When is White history month and Native American history month? Why can't we just go back to the old system where we learn about everyone's history whenever we want throughout the entire year?

OMG!

Again another divisive article. History is history no colour filter required.

Is anyone really interested in this apart from Sky News Why can’t we have a British history month and remember everything British. Too much emphasis by some on this to make any difference! How will we know if people feel seen or feel loved apart from what Sky churns out!

What about the child slaves in Congo being paid by large EU corporations

What next? Asian month? Jewish month? LBGT+ QWERT...... month? 🤦

It’s ridiculous, they are highly over represented and ridiculously low on entertainment value. The forced blackening of our television has made me reject it. Now me and my family only watch YouTube and Bitchute.

I can help with the first bit, just tune in to the bbc! You might feel lonely though.

Nearly every tv advert now has Black people , even though the population of the UK is 80% white . Is this still not enough for SKY

Seriously?

And adverts.

💤💤💤💤

NuffSaid

You know we ain't children, I mean I'm OK if you want to make a period movie with all white people... Its not vital...because art shouldn't be political

Isn't this the 5th BHM of 2020? 🤣

To reduce gang violence and encourage them to work full time legal jobs.

Vital? 😂 every race has had a horrible past in some way. Even white people were enslaved. And treated poorly in Asia and Africa. Black history month is just another pointless month that leads only to the world being more separate and not equal.

It’s a disgrace it’s patronising when is white history month dont they want to patronise the majority of this country too !

Vanity

😆😆😆

Make up 18% of UK population but would think it’s a white minority here In the UK if you went by TV and film! I’m Scottish we are 94% white. If they don’t feel loved it’s because of their parents not the media.

Don't worry everyone its nearly 1st November

When is white history month?

It's a bit grotesque there's only one month when non-white people are acknowledged, then it's back to white supremacy for the rest of the year. Why can't we have not-white-supremacy all the time?

😠

I’ve no idea, when they only represent less than 19% of the U.K....

Why so obsessed with history its in the past ,very short in this country compared to native british history not that i care about either, multi media bending over backwards to be politically correct

Oh ffs wrap em up in a blanket and give em a cuddle 🙄 give it a rest sky your suppose to report news

FakeHistory FakeNewsMedia

I guess its black and white these days...

Black history month is in February and is in the US, where they have fought tooth and nail for equality, black history in Britain, is part of British history is it not?! Stop the divide!

What about white people, by saying that does, that make me racist seriously what's happening with or world 🤔🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Need more as revenue lads? Sad!

It’s not that I’m offended by this. It’s that it’s truly pointless and achieves nothing. Yet people think it does.

White people, repent!!

3%

They're over represented in adverts, sport & music! FACT. Give it a fucking rest!

blacks are the original Israelites. The bible is a book written about black people.

Looking forward to Black Friday.

Last time I checked AFRICA 🌍 had a lot of countries but only celebrated few in the month of BlackHistoryMonthUK can anyone explain to me why that is?

When’s Black Friday ?

Sky news doing a wee bit of late night baiting😂😂. I can actually remember when they were a serious news channel.

Asians have a higher population in the UK than Black folk. Why don't they get an Asian month? And then we can have a White month.

All tv, film, news is black.

These are the histories of other countries. If I moved to China I wouldn’t expect a Scottish history month because I’m there. Most of black history is being ignored because we are getting next to nothing about Africa and that is where black history belongs, it’s all about America

And Asian? Why only black?

Don't they feel loved enough by tv, adverts, and MSM. You can't have anything now without them, must be in the rules, or law.

So BHM for non white actors to feel loved? Whar about the other 11 months?

Christian churches are prohibited in Turkey. France may ban mosques

And if you changed the word Black to Asian, Hispanic or White, would that be racist?

Is it due to their self confidence? Having a black history month wont help that, especially on a majority WHITE island!! I said it, WHITE

I can't wait for the 1st of November.

This will massively anger the gammons

Who cares seriously Sly News love pushing this agenda. Stop looking for attention, be a good citizen and treat people how you wanna be treated and you won’t have problems.

We don’t care about the black history month
