Rishi Sunak on Thursday night said he and his family had been the victims of a political “smear” campaign after his wife's non-domicile tax status emerged.
She has decided pay her taxes,, but she not take up citizenship so she can avoid the inheritance tax, which would cost her 250 million pounds. There is no way that chancellor would ever understand ordinary people, IMO, Rishi Sunak just playing games people.

It's pointless for Sunak to try and argue this away. As part of a Government who is regularly accused of having a separate law for themselves and their connections (Party fines, VIP lanes for Covid PPE), this looks very bad
I have heard they are both holders of a US green cards, which means they have promised to live permenantly in the USA. I guess that will come out soon.

It is not a smear if it is true. His wife is resident full time in the Uk and does not pay tax here or in India on her Indian holdings. It is not automatic-she has applied to be tax exempt. Meanwhile everyone on low paid PAYE salaries have to pay every penny.
She does, however, pay tax on income earned outside the UK in a jurisdiction with reciprocal tax arrangements with the UK. Meaning that she likely pays no less tax than she would if she held British citizenship.
Given that ordinary taxpayers are suffering the highest tax rates for 70 years thanks to Sunak, his choice not to make non doms share some of the burden, is a clear conflict of interest.
But she lives here 🤔
Doesn’t make sense.. it’s money made in other countries.. it’s like asking amazon to pay tax for their business operations in America in the uk, the only argument is, you want her to be taxed twice
