Public criticise new charges at Northampton country parks

Patrick Scaysbrook, who travels from Leamington Spa to visit Daventry Country Park, said the new rates were "a bit of an issue". "I'm not happy with that at all. I like the £2.20 [current rate] because I can just come here with my daughter and it doesn't matter if she wants to spend an hour here in the park or if we want to go to the café and have a wander.

From April, both Daventry and Brixworth Country Park parking prices will range from £3 to as much as £12, depending on how long you stay. A single park season ticket is rising from £38 to £70.

Seems like another short sighted and poorly informed decision to solve an immediate problem that could cost more in the long term. Are councillors aware of the links between open spaces and health?

It won't bring in an extra £176,000 if people can't or won't pay (and many won't). How did they spend the income from car parks last year I wonder?

I suspect Forestry England will also increase car parking charges at Salcey Forest. Northampton Northamptonshire

What do we actually get for our council tax anymore with all these surcharges- it’s getting beyond a joke now - the council is clearly inept and can’t do their job balancing the accounts

WestNorthants displaying again that it is tone deaf. The increased charges are forecast to deliver a paltry £176,000 a year against an installation cost of £144,000. Cllr. Nunn says this will help 'protect frontline services.' Utter rubbish. Voters taken as fools.

Will there be an option to pay for an hour or two or can you only pay for a day, I’m sure currently it’s one rate only at Brixworth so that will mean to use it even for an hour will cost that much. Shameful.
