Last weekend's storm caused significant damage to St Andrews Aquarium, leading to its closure. The outdoor seal pool was evacuated and the steel fencing around the enclosure was destroyed. All animals are safe and being cared for.

Last weekend's torrential weather caused significant damage to St Andrews Aquarium, leaving owners scrambling in blustering conditions to rescue their animals.

Speaking of the devastation, owner and managing director John Mace said: “We are just devastated by the damage caused, our team were on-site through the night and luckily managed to move our seals before the enclosure fencing was destroyed, but it could have been a lot worse. Shocking pictures posted by Angus Council on X, formerly known as Twitter, show parts of Montrose Promenade having collapsed after hours of torrential winds and rain.
