Hundreds gathered at Clapham Common to pay their respects to Sarah Everard but officers have moved in to disperse the crowds and some were pictured being detained
But protesters have accused them of ‘waiting for the sun to set before they started grabbing and manhandling women in the crowd’. ‘We are urging people to go home and we thank those who have been engaging with officers and who are leaving.’Protesters accused the police of ‘waiting for the sun to set and manhandling protestors’ Streatham MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy tweeted footage of the clashes at Clapham Common, saying: ‘This could have been the socially distanced vigil the community needed to remember Sarah and all the women who have lost their lives to violence. We knew what was going to happen if the event was shut down.
Ridiculous, you could of all payd your respects, put your flowers down, said a little🙏 & gone home. BUT NO you all carried on standing there until it was a huge crowd. Knowing we’re in lockdown. Don’t blame the police if you would of left when asked to wouldn’t of been problems
Shame on the bints breaking lockdown.
I'm not sure if it's the flash photography or not, but it looks very dark there. I don agree with or accept banning this vigil, I saw videos and pictures of the Duchess visiting and it seemed orderly and peaceful then. Did they just not want to leave until dragged out?
The public are easy prey and profitable, criminals are dangerous and too much paperwork.
The police are too heavy handed with the general public, and yet far too soft with criminals, in fact they've stopped trying to arrest criminals, too dangerous. It's far easier to arrest the LAW ABIDING public.
The irony here is staggering. A vigil about the safety of women, encourage people to attend when a deadly virus may spread amongst them leading to serious illness or death. Police are enforcing law they have been instructed to do. The sarah everard vagil was cancelled remember
lindat191 We need resignations
Khans London
Why did they not lead RangersFC fans away after their win
Good on the police, they are breaking lockdown rules. A vigil can be done at home. Hope the organisers are still fined.
Crazyka93170448 Well I think they should be able to of they maintain social distancing.
Shame on you Shame on them. What a way to hold a vigil by breaking the law. I guess she would be really honoured. Everyone standing close together among a pandemic, old and young, just in time to take it back to your loved ones. Guess that would make her so proud.
They didn't do that with BLM
How ridiculous chanting by protesters 'shame on you'. You cannot stereotype police over one cop murderer, that's insane.
Idiots, can guarantee some of these didn’t dare for Sarah and just turned up to cause trouble. Shame really :-(
10 grand fines ain't enough of a deterrent double it and get these idiots of the streets
£10,000 fines for each of them breaking lockdown and putting the NHS at risk
Good...they’re breaking the law...lock em up.
A bit unfair in essence. But hey ho. It’s always been the same with the general public. One slip up from an individual and the whole force gets it in the neck. 😒

Davina McCall Under Fire For Her Comments In The Fallout From The Sarah Everard CaseMany twitter users are upset with Davina McCall's comments in the social media fallout following the Sarah Everard case. Read more on Grazia. I agree with Davina, we can’t blame all men and lock them up for the actions of a minority. That doesn’t mean we can’t also address the problems of violence against women by men. We should all be teaching our sons to respect women.
