Hundreds of people have gathered at Clapham Common this evening to pay their respects to Sarah Everard.among the mourners.
Groups of people have also gathered at vigils being held around the UK, including in Glasgow, Bristol and Nottingham. The events have been organised in memory of Ms Everard – who was found dead after going missing while walking home last week – as well as to urge more is done to tackle violence against women.
The target was set to mirror the fines which might have been issued had the vigils gone ahead, with the aim to raise £10,000 for each of the 32 vigils which organisers said had been scheduled. Speaking at Feminists of London’s virtual event, she said: ‘The truth is of course I don’t want to be here at all, I do not want to attend a vigil for a bright young woman in her early 30s, a woman with her life before her. Those present chanted ‘sisters united will never be defeated’ People are being invited to light a candle in her memory at 9.30pm
Totally irresponsible and does their cause no good at all.
Enjoy the £10k fines.
