Met Office weather warnings for snow and ice have been in place for our region since Monday, with the white stuff falling overnight last night and people waking up to snowy scenes this morning. The warning issued by forecasters yesterday is in place until lunchtime.
Today, another new yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued covering all of our region. It is set to come into force at 12pm and will last until 12pm tomorrow.According to the Met Office, wintry showers will bring further disruption from ice and snow. Some roads and railways are likely to be affected, with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are to be expected, the Met Office said, and there are likely to be icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Today is forecast to be a mostly sunny and clear day in Greater Manchester, with temperatures reaching highs of around 5C this afternoon.
Overnight and into the early hours of tomorrow morning, the mercury will plummet to freezing and will not rise above 3C tomorrow. Tomorrow is forecast to be a cloudy day with some sunny spells. All of England is expected to continue to experience cold weather until 9am on Friday . The UK Health Security Agency issued a level three cold alert in response to 'severe winter weather'.
