Forecasters issued a warning yesterday which came into force at 12pm and lasts until 12pm today. This covered some of our region including parts of Trafford, Wigan and Bolton.
Today, forecasters have issued another snow and ice warning which covers the whole of Greater Manchester. This yellow warning for snow and ice will come into force at midday and will last until midday tomorrow.According to the Met Office, snow showers and icy stretches may cause some disruption. Some roads and railways will be affected with longer journey times on the roads, buses and trains.
Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are also to be expected. Forecasters predict that sleet will start to fall in Greater Manchester at around 6pm tonight when temperatures drop to around 1C. Light snow is then forecast at around 8pm with more snow showers expected to fall overnight into tomorrow morning. The UK Health Security Agency , a Government health agency, issued a level three cold alert for the whole of England on Monday in response to 'severe winter weather'.
People have been urged to plan ahead when travelling. A rare amber weather warning for snow has been issued for parts of Scotland today, with around 10 to 15cm of snow expected to fall over a short period of time.
