A multi-millionaire Conservative MSP claimed a £129 hotel room on expenses after he lost the keys to his Edinburgh flat.
The Highlands MSP is a substantial landowner in Moray and co-owns two profitable fishing and farming businesses.Jeremie Fernandes, who sits on Moray Council, said: "If I lost the keys to my flat and had to spend the night in a hotel, I would think: ‘Tough, it’s my bad , I’ll just pay for a hotel. I’ll be more careful next time’.
"Later in the evening, when he had still not found them, he again contacted security at the parliament to check whether they had been handed in. When told they hadn’t, he had no option but to book a hotel room for the night. A Scottish Conservatives spokesman said: “While this claim was within the parliamentary rules, Edward has chosen to repay it.”
