The locals have spoken about how welcoming the neighbourhood in Bramhope is, where homes sell for millions

The wealthy have an unfair reputation of being haughty and snobbish in many circles – but there’s one idyllic affluent area in Leeds proving that stereotype completely wrong, according to the locals. They’ve defiantly said they are neither “hoity -toity” or “stuck-up,” and are in fact very friendly.

Local butcher Nigel Stringwell, who manages Wilkinson J B & Sons on Tredgold Avenue, says he’s grown accustomed to seeing a raft of Lamborghinis, Porsches and Range Rovers, amongst other luxury vehicles, pulling up in front of his shop ever since he started working there 16 years ago. Nigel said: “It’s upper end. Posh is ‘hoity-toity’ really, aint it? Where the posh are all out in their smart gear all the time – but when they come to me, they’re in their casual gear. When I first came, I didn’t know them and they didn’t know me and it was all upper class, ‘I’m this and I’m that,’ all that sort of thing.

'Everybody is so welcoming' Claire Bingham has lived in the luxurious Hall Drive for a couple years, after moving over from Morley with her husband. Claire says she inherited some of her wealth, works as a nail technician, previously a mortgage under-writer, and her husband works as an engineer and owns a very successful business in Bradford.

“I always thought that moving to this area, people would be really stuck up but they’re not. Everybody is so welcoming and friendly, they make you feel at home.” Village show fears Bramhope holds an annual village show, quite aptly named The Bramhope Show, held at The Robert Craven Memorial Hall. The show has been running for many, and features stalls, a tombola, a flower show a range of classes, amongst a range of other festivities. However, this year the fate of the show is in peril, according to one of the organisers.
