Boris Johnson accepts Northern Ireland impasse down to Brexit deal he signed up to

Boris Johnson has accepted that the political impasse in Northern Ireland is a "direct consequence" of the Brexit deal he signed up to.

Speaking to the BBC's political editor, Chris Mason, the prime minister insisted the Northern Ireland Protocol "had a lot to be said for it", but that it needed to be fixed as it is currently "unbalanced" in the way it's interpreted. Mr Johnson was at Hillsborough Castle to encourage Northern Ireland's parties to re-form institutions after the assembly election.

So far, the Democratic Unionist Party has withheld its support until the government takes "decisive action" on post-Brexit trade arrangements.

The is one of Boris biggest and most damaging mistakes. (And he’s made a lot)

I have so many questions from this interview.

Labour do talk a load of bollocks and the BBC are only to pleased to give them air time. These 'legally binding commitments' that the EU refer to are the same 'legally binding commitments' that require the EU to negotiate to resolve the known problems with the NIP.

There was and only ever two options...hard border or united Ireland

You repeated his lies bbcnews. You are as culpable as he is.

A guy bumped into my car when I was stationary at traffic lights many years ago I thought he was going to apologise Instead he accused me of reversing into him! Remind you of anyone?

Down to no one else.

Holy f**k ... he's recognized reality?! Do his doctors know?

“Yes, I signed it but the EU aren’t implementing like I thought they would”, it was great for NI when they had the grace period, that was to give the UK time to implement a frictionless way of customs rules with the EU. Remember all the “technology”, Rees-Mogg & co promised!

The oven ready deal wasn’t so oven ready after all. But not only wasn’t it oven ready, they didn’t even know what the ingredients to add should be!!

Your journalists need to start doing their job and hold this charlatan to account. It really is pathetic.

Have you pointed out he lied to win the GE19?

Boris Johnson created this Brexit mess in Northern Ireland – and he should own it | Simon JenkinsThe prime minister lacks the authority to fix the problems his protocol has caused. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland suffers, says Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins Well that would involve him admitting he has made a mistake...so he won't be owning this. Although he most definitely should. His despicable legacy will haunt the islands for many years to come. But he won't even realise it. I thought it was the ‘leave’ voters that created the whole Brexit disaster🤔

UK has 'absolutely the right' to change Northern Ireland post-Brexit trade rules, says business secretaryIreland's foreign minister Simon Coveney warns the UK making changes unilaterally to the Northern Ireland Protocol would be a breach of international law and says his country is also 'frustrated' dealing with the fallout of Brexit, costing it hundreds of millions of euros. Kwasi ain’t judge nor jury. His words sound assured but meaningless. If they tear it up then they can forget about any kind of trade deal with America,America simply won’t accept the fact it may inflame the troubles again🤷‍♂️Signing something just to get it over the line & then reneging on it b/c you screwed up is a prime example of incompetence!
