Filmed from just off shore in the Lebanese capital’s port, it just captures the beginning of the explosion, which has left at least 135 people dead, more than 5,000 injured and an estimated 300,000 homeless.The scene begins with a cloud of smoke billowing from an area where nearly 700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate are believed to have been stored, which experts are blaming for the incident.

The resulting ash cloud is not thought to pose a significant health threat to people in the city.Andrea Sella, a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry, UCL, explained: ‘I don’t think there is any significant hazard.‘It is not volatile (i.e. it doesn’t fly) and as most of the ammonium nitrate will have gone and the remainder can be washed away into the sea where it will fertilise things.
