James Whale has said his kidney cancer is ‘getting a bit worse than it was’ Veteran broadcaster James Whale has said he is uncertain about how long he has left as he continues to battle stage four kidney cancer. Whale, 72, who was made an MBE at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, was first diagnosed with cancer back in 2000 and had to have one of his kidneys removed. Then in 2020, the TalkTV host revealed that the cancer had returned in his kidney, spine, brain and lungs.

’ Whale was made an MBE for his services to broadcasting and to charity, after becoming a popular voice on radio and TV for five decades, and still hosts a regular Saturday slot on TalkTV and TalkRadio. He said: ‘The award has been the pinnacle of doing what I’ve done. ‘It makes me feel very proud that somebody has recognised the fact that I’ve spent my entire life being rude to people for entertainment.

Jacob Rees-Mogg’s State of the Nation on GB News was among the episodes to breach Ofcom rules on impartiality. That scrap has been won on all scorecards by the upstart. It has consistently led in ratings, reaching 3.2 million viewers compared to the 2.5 million of Rupert’s failing TalkTV in January. Murdoch dominates the TV news market in America as the owner of money-spinning Fox News, but in Britain he had to take his dog out of the fight, retiring TalkTV to an online only future this month. Scoop interviews with everyone from Volodymyr Zelensky to Cristiano Ronaldo and Kanye West but it’s hard to see his reported £50m deal being renewed beyond next year, now that he is primarily a YouTuber.
