Fire crews were called to the blaze in St Anne's Road in Widnes shortly before 6pm. They entered the house to tackle the fire, but were later withdrawn after concerns about the roof collapsing. The road was closed as crews dealt with the incident, but this has since reopened.
The ECHO understands the house was vacant at the time of the fire, after being put up for auction in February. Firefighters remained on the scene overnight as they continued to damp down and remove roof material.
