These affordable postcodes are ideal for people wanting to start their journey onto the property ladder

Buying your first home is an exciting prospect, however, it can also be daunting too. From tackling mortgages for the first time to navigating house viewings, it can be difficult for first-time buyers to know where to start.

OL8 The OL8 postcode, which covers Bardsley and part of Oldham town, has the cheapest house prices in the region. Over the last year, the average cost of a home was £151,917 across 174 sales. WN2 WN2, which covers a variety of Wigan areas including Abram, Aspull, Bamfurlong, Bickershaw, Haigh, Hindley, Hindley Green, Ince and Platt Bridge, is another affordable area for first-time buyers. The postcode has an average house price of £168,470 across 388 sales over the last year.

WN3 In WN3, Winstanley and Mesnes are also considered affordable with an average house price of £176,510 across 184 sales over the last 12 months. OL10 Heywood in Rochdale is also a good place for first-time buyers to look. You can buy a home for an average of £187,977 here, based on 209 property sales across the last 12 months.
