Since February 2020 - pre-first Covid lockdown - until January this year, there has been an increase of more than 462,000 people claiming PIP for psychiatric disorders, according to the DailyRecord. Just last week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced a new consultation on PIP, aiming to review eligibility criteria, assessment processes, and the types of support offered through this disability benefit.
As the benefit is paid every four weeks, this equates to between £114.80 and £737.20 each payment period. If you need additional support to cover daily living or mobility costs due to a mental health condition, it might be worth considering a PIP claim. You usually need to have lived in the UK for at least two of the last three years and be in the country when you apply.
