According to a 2008 study by Edward Ernst, a professor of complementary medicine, it was suggested that the acupuncture might help women to relax which would, in turn, improve pregnancy rates.

These theories suggest that acupuncture works by helping to release chemicals that send messages from the brain - called neurotransmitters - that affect reproductive hormones and organs; by stimulating blood flow to the uterus, thereby making embryo implantation more likely.
